Group
Therapy
I conduct two kinds of group therapy sessions for children and adolescents:
1. Children and adolescents dealing with social difficulties. Social difficulties may arise for a number of reasons, such as social anxiety, excessive controlling behavior, passiveness, social desirability bias, attention deficit disorder which can manifests either in absentmindedness, impulsiveness, and rigidity, and more. The group provides a safe setting to experiment with new forms of social interaction and interpretation, and to expand and develop the “social self.”
2. Adapting to new settings and environments, such as through immigration and/or relocation, which can entail changes in climate, residence, culture, language, and more. Relocations are often accompanied by feelings of frustration, alienation, loneliness, and difficulties in social integration. The group provides a safe space to share feelings of loss and changes in perceptions of the self, as well as providing a platform to establish a new sense of belonging.
Sometimes, depending in each particular case, it is recommended to conduct individual therapy prior to joining group therapy.
